Overview

Eligibility Graduate Students in good academic standing at a major college/university Students in good academic standing in major colleges/universities
Period July 5 – August 15 (6 weeks) July 5 – August 7 (5 weeks)
Program

  1. Lectures
  2. Group research work
  3. Participation and poster presentation at NEREC Conference
  4. Field trips to Seoul, Gyeongju, and China and Japan
  5. Korean cultural events

Benefits NEREC covers lodging and meals for non-resident students for 6 weeks, and all costs related to field trips, cultural events and conference participation. The benefits amount to approximately $6,000. NEREC covers lodging for non-resident students for 5 weeks and all costs related to field trips, cultural events and conference participation. The benefits amount to approximately $2,500.
Credits Students from KAIST can get one course credits by successfully completing the program. Non-KAIST students can get a letter from the Director of NEREC endorsing the award of equivalent course credits from his/her university. (※ Note that the letter is unofficial.)  
Visa Preparation for the Field Trip to China and Japan
  • Applicants are responsible to obtain visas on their own for the entry to China and Japan (tourist visas) before joining the program.
  • Those applicants unable to obtain visas prior to the beginning of the program will not attend the field trip to China and Japan.
 

Travel Grants (for applicants from non-OECD countries)

NEREC offers round trip airfare to one qualified graduate fellow from non-OECD countries. Applicant who wishes to receive the grant should submit their “NEREC Travel Grant Application” along with their application of the program. The successful applicant will be notified via email approximately by the 4th week of March.

Selection Process

  • Application: In order to be considered for review, the application package must be submitted by March 6 to Ms. Sunyoung at msy0430@kaist.ac.kr. The application package consists of elements below:
    • 2020 NEREC Young Fellows Program Application – Resume and personal statement, names/contact info for two references (including your academic advisor)  
    • Academic transcripts of Bachelor’s degree - A copy of an official one or computer printout is acceptable.
    • (Optional) NEREC Travel Grant Application
